Breeder Profile – Jeff, Anne & Lavonne Mullinax

Tammy and I had a chance to visit with the Mullinax crew during Memorial Day weekend. I would like to share part of that visit with fellow Flemish Breeders. The Mullinax’s live in Santa Rosa, California which is about an hour north of San Francisco. They have about 100 holes which contain mostly Fawn and Sandy Flemish Giants. They also have some of the other colors, but their main emphasis is with the Fawns and Sandies. Lavonne is an excellent breeder of French Lops and she also competes for cage space with Jeff and Anne’s Flemish. Lavonne (Jeff’s mom) helped us to get started in the French Lops. Jeff and Anne got their start in Flemish from us. They visited us roughly two years ago and purchased some animals that are out of our lines. We started them out with some good animals. However, Tammy and I were very surprised at how quickly the Mullinax’s were able to turn the offspring into big winners. Josie, a Fawn Senior doe was able to win an All-Breed show in Santa Rosa in January. Glen Carr picked her Best in Show. I really do not need to mention how impressed he was with this awesome Fawn.

The Mullinax’s also have a very nice Saltwater aquarium. Their rabbitry is located directly behind their home and this gives them a very nice view of it from the kitchen. Jeff and Anne used the cage design from Harold’s article in the guidebook. Jeff is an excellent builder and modified the designs slightly to best suit their rabbit’s environment. Jeff is also going to build the two grooming tables that will be awarded to some very lucky youth members at the 2002 convention in Peoria.

Jeff and Anne have developed a great website for their Rabbitry. As you also know, Jeff designed and maintains the Flemish Giant website for our club. The site www.nffgrb.com is the best website for any specialty club.

Jeff and Anne took us to visit the wine country and several other outstanding attractions during our visit. Tammy and I enjoyed the time that we spent with the Mullinax’s. Please make an effort to say hello to them at a show in the very near future. They are truly what the present and the future is all about in the Flemish Giant club.
