National Federation of Flemish Giant

Rabbit Breeders, Inc.

 By Allen Bush, Secretary

The National Convention in Wichita was one to remember.  We had a very nice turnout of Flemish and Flemish exhibitors.  The quality of rabbit in both Open and Youth was very good.  Congratulation goes out to Anne and Jeff Mullinax for winning Best and Best Opposite of Breed in the Open.  Tamra Lewis claimed Best of Breed in the Youth.  Best Opposite of Breed went to David Ford.  Charles Ray and Bob and Kathy Bomia were added to the Honor Roll.  The new guidebooks were distributed to all members who were present during the convention.  The guidebook project was a “GIANT” success.  This edition is a definite upgrade to prior editions.  The Regional Club surprised everyone with a special lunch for all the members.  On behalf of the NFFGRB, thank you for making us feel very welcomed in your region.  Our club voted to have the ARBA Convention and National Flemish show be “Double Sweepstakes Shows.”  We have also adopted a new “Family Membership Rate.”  The Board is working on guidelines to administer the new “Lifetime Membership Rates.”  Please remember this is your club and we are constantly working to make it better based on your input.

The 2004 Sweepstakes is in full swing.  The leaders with reports submitted as of 12/07/03 are as follows:  Jan Van Etten, NY – 5,534; Clouse’s of Indiana – 4,366; Bob & Lynn Bolyard, MI – 3,974; Frank & Judith Welch, PA – 3,864; Bob & Kathy Bomia, MI – 3,151; Dwight & Marge Westercamp, IA – 2,589; Green Lane Rabbitry, PA – 2,206; Will & Christi Sutton, MO – 1,713; Dan Roblee, NY – 1,638; Vic & Gloria Bloom, MI – 1,522.  These totals do not include the ARBA Convention.  Good Luck to all that promote our “Gentle Giants”.

We have several Flemish Specialty Shows to report.  The Michigan club held two shows on 09/28.  Bob and Kathy Bomia won both shows with a pair of Sandy Does.  Best Opposite of Breed went to the Clouse’s with a Fawn Senior Buck in the first show.  The Bomia’s won Best Opposite in the second show with a Sandy Junior Buck.  The Regional Club held a show on 10/04.  Best of Breed went to Todd & Kim Nettleton with a Sandy Senior Buck.  Best Opposite went to Will & Christi Sutton with a Fawn 6/8 Doe.  The Iowa Club held a show on 10/05.  Doc Hall won Best of Breed with a Sandy 6/8 Buck.  The Westercamp’s won Best Opposite of Breed with a Light Gray 6/8 Doe.  The Southern Flemish Club held two shows on 10/11.  Best of Breed in the first show went to Charles and Belinda Bryant with a White Senior Doe.  The Bolyard’s won Best Opposite of Breed with a Sandy Senior Buck.  The second show was swept by Bob & Lynn Bolyard.  They won with a Fawn Senior Doe and a Sandy 6/8 Buck.  A Specialty show was held in Connecticut on 10/19.  Best of Breed went to Ray Skoglund with a Fawn Junior Doe.  Jan Van Etten won Best Opposite of Breed with a Sandy Junior Buck.  The ARBA convention was held during November.  Jeff & Anne Mullinax won the top two spots with a pair of Sandy Seniors.  The Youth Best of Breed went to Tamra Lewis with a Sandy Senior buck.  Best Opposite of Breed went to David Ford with a Steel 6/8 Doe.  The Iowa Club held two more shows on 11/08.  William & Mickey Blum won Best of Breed in the first show with a Steel Senior Doe.  Doc Hall won Best Opposite of Breed with a Sandy Junior Buck.  The Second show went to Dwight & Marge Westercamp with a Sandy 6/8 Doe.  Doc Hall claimed the runner up prize again with the same rabbit.
