National Federation of Flemish Giant Rabbit Breeders, Inc. By Allen Bush, Secretary Spring is finally here. It has been a long and cold winter for our members in the East and Mid-West. In Southern California, we tied our all-time record for least snowfall. I am starting to hear great news of Flemish litters being born all over the country. I am confident that the Flemish Club will be extremely well represented at the ARBA Convention and other shows towards the end of 2004. By looking at the sweepstakes leaders, you will notice that we are doing extremely well so far. The judges for the 2004 ARBA Open convention will be Kyle Cunningham and Willie Davis. They are both experienced sorters of Flemish. Please try to attend the convention in Providence, Rhode Island. The youth judges have not been determined as of the publish date of this article. I need your help to improve the newsletter. Please send me articles and pictures by June 1st.
The 2004 Sweepstakes is now into April. The leaders with reports submitted as of 04/10/04 are as follows: Bob & Kathy Bomia, MI – 9,835; Bob & Lynn Bolyard, MI – 7,242; Frank & Judith Welch, PA – 7,188; Clouse’s of Indiana – 6,950; Jan Van Etten, NY – 5,534; Dwight & Marge Westercamp, IA – 5,258; Will & Christi Sutton, MO – 4,077; Allen & Tammy Bush, CA – 3,826; Jack & Hazel Langley, TX – 3,717; Jeff & Anne Mullinax, CA – 2,993. Good Luck to all that promote our “Gentle Giants”. The 2004 Youth Sweepstakes has also reached April. The Flemish Club is very proud of the boom in the number of youth exhibitors and youth rabbits being shown throughout the country. The leaders with reports submitted as of 04/10/04 are as follows: Tamra Lewis, IA 1,912; Chris Fleming, CA – 1,830; Kerry Harris, MI 1,334; Wil Wilfong, CA – 1,299; Ashley Wilson, IL – 1,187; Danielle Souster, WI – 1,094; Kyle Campbell, MI – 1,087; Justin Good, IN – 710; Lainey Smith – CA, 601; David Ford, CA – 585. I have a vision for the future of the Flemish Club. I would like to see a “GIANT” show that combines the Flemish Giant, Checkered Giant, French Lop and the Giant Chinchilla. Tammy and I are starting to raise Checkered Giants. We have also raised French Lops. I know that several Flemish breeders also raise the other large rabbits. I think it is an awesome idea to combine all of our National Shows and have the winner of each breed compete for the best “BIG” rabbit that year. There could also be special prizes for the breeder/owner who had the best display in the show. Please let me know what you think of this “GIANT” plan for the future. It may be a wonderful way to help promote all of the larger breeds. TAMMY AND I LOOK FORWARD TO SEEING MANY OF YOU AT A SHOW REAL SOON. PLAN ON ATTENDING THE ARBA CONVENTION IN PROVIDENCE, RHODE ISLAND.
DO NOT FORGET IT IS A “DOUBLE SWEEPSTAKES SHOW” IN THE OPEN AND THE YOUTH.
