Domestic Rabbit Article May 2003 National Federation of Flemish Giant Rabbit Breeders, Inc.
By Allen Bush, Secretary
As I write this letter, Tammy and I have just returned from the 1st Annual National Flemish Giant Show held in Sedalia Missouri on 03/29 & 03/30. Three shows were held during this outstanding weekend. We were very fortunate to win Best & Best Opposite of Breed in the National Show. We won Best of Breed with a Fawn Senior Doe. Our Best Opposite of Breed was a Fawn Senior Buck that was given to us by Jeff & Anne Mullinax. The Central States show was also held on Saturday with the National Show. Once again, we were very fortunate to win Best of Breed with the same Fawn Doe. Best Opposite of Breed went to Bob & Lynn Bolyard with an outstanding Sandy Senior Buck. The third show was held on Sunday. The Regional Flemish Giant club hosted it. Best of Breed was won by Dwight & Marge Westercamp with a wonderful Light Gray Senior Doe. We were very lucky to win Best Opposite of Breed with the same Fawn Senior Buck. Although, the numbers were in the low to mid 200’s, most people seemed to have a good time at the show and the banquet on Saturday night. We had 4 excellent judges doing our sorting. Glen Carr, Chris Hayhow, Marv Wunderlin & Gene Gillispie handled this difficult task during a very memorable weekend of Flemish Competition & Discussion. A special thank you goes out to everyone for making this 1st show a great success. Also, our election is just around the corner. Please request a nominating petition if you are interested in running for office. The petition can be found on the website, or request one from me. We are going to include a comment section on the ballot this year. This will give every member a chance to let us know what we are doing well and what we can improve on. A rough draft of a significant portion of the Guidebook will be sent to Tom Orr, Bob Bolyard & Bob Bomia for their review in the middle of April. We have also received the first written bid for producing the Guidebook. Please send me pictures and updates for the June newsletter. I need any articles, Rabbitry advertisements and Specialty Club advertisements by June 1st.
We have a few additional All-Flemish Giant shows to report since the last Domestic Rabbit submission. The Gentle Giant Club held a show on 01/31. Charlie & Jean Sikes swept the top honors with a Sandy Senior Doe and a Fawn Senior Buck. The Georgia Rabbit Club held a show on 02/08. Best of Breed went to Charles & Belinda Bryant with a White Senior Doe. Tim & Kim Benefield won Best Opposite of Breed with a Steel Senior Buck. The York County Specialty show was held on 03/02. The top spot went to Bill & Bessie Pearsall with a Fawn Senior Buck. Best Opposite of Breed went to Frank & Judie Welch with a Sandy Senior Doe. The Regional Flemish Club also held a show on 03/08. The top spot went to Todd & Kim Nettleton with a Sandy Senior Buck. Dwight & Marge Westercamp won Best Opposite of Breed with a Sandy Senior Doe.
