National Federation of Flemish Giant Rabbit Breeders,
Inc.
By Allen Bush, Secretary
As I write this letter, the holiday
season is in full gear. I look back on my first year as NFFGRB club
secretary with mixed emotions. I have enjoyed being your club secretary. I
get a great deal of satisfaction in thinking that our club is moving in
the right direction. The website, the improved newsletter and the strong
youth movement are the foundation of this club for the future. However, I
am saddened by all of the hardships that several of our members have had
to endure during 2002. I want to send my deepest sympathy to any club
member that has lost a loved one during 2002. It is my wish that everyone
will have a very happy and prosperous 2003. Please send me pictures and
updates for the March newsletter. I need any articles, Rabbitry
advertisements and Specialty Club advertisements by March 1st.
We have several All-Flemish Giant
shows to report since the last Domestic Rabbit submission. In August, the
NERCC club held a specialty show with Teresa & Gerry Kemp winning Best of
Breed with a White Junior Buck. Betty Hoover won Best Opposite of Breed
with a Steel Senior Doe. The Central States club held a show in September
with the Clouse’s of Indiana sweeping the top two spots. They were
victorious with a Light Gray 6/8 Buck and a Sandy Senior Doe. The Texas
Flemish club held two shows in October. The first show was won by Charles
& Jean Sikes with a Fawn Senior Buck. Best Opposite of Breed went to Bob &
Lynn Bolyard with a Fawn 6/8 Doe. The 2nd show was won by Caleb
& Jean Thomas with a Steel Senior Buck. Best Opposite of Breed went to
Fred Russell with a White Senior Doe. The Regional Flemish show in October
went to Dwight & Marge Westercamp with a Sandy Senior Doe. Charles Ray won
Best Opposite of Breed with a Sandy Senior Buck. The Southern Flemish club
held two shows in October. Bob & Lynn Bolyard claimed the top two spots in
the first show with a Sandy Senior Buck and a Fawn Senior Doe. The second
show went to Tim & Kim Benefield with a Fawn 6/8 Doe. Best Opposite of
Breed went to Larry Wyrick with a Light Gray Junior Buck. The West Coast
Flemish club held a show in Monroe Washington in November. Bill & Marianne
Mairs claimed the top two spots with a Light Gray 6/8 Buck and a White 6/8
Doe. The Regional Flemish club held another show in November. Charles Ray
won Best of Breed with a Light Gray Senior Doe. Todd & Kim Nettleton won
Best Opposite of Breed with a Sandy Senior Buck. A special congratulation
goes to Charles & Jean Sikes who were added to the honor roll.
The top point leaders in the 2003
Sweepstakes series with reports submitted as of 12/06/02 are as follows:
Charles Ray, KS - 4,600; Bob & Lynn Bolyard, MI - 4,078; Jan Van Etten, NY
- 3,560; Jeff & Anne Mullinax, CA - 3,417; Clouse’s of Indiana - 3,067;
Dwight & Marge Westercamp, IA - 2,089; Robert & Kathy Bomia, MI - 1,724;
Green Lane Rabbitry, PA – 1,667; Lakeside Rabbitry, ME – 1,228; Sean
Slater, Canada – 1,069. Good Luck to all that promote our "Gentle Giants".
Please try to attend a show in your
area. A few of my favorites are the Cortland shows in April, the National
show in Sedalia during March and a truly outstanding weekend at our home
in Camarillo, CA in late April. One correction to the prior Domestic
rabbit submission is as follows: Jordyn Lohn won Best of Breed Youth with
a Sandy 6/8 Doe and won Best Opposite of Breed with a Fawn Junior Buck in
the 2002 ARBA Convention. I will continue to send all parties interested
in purchasing a Flemish to the website. Please register your Rabbitry with
Jeff Mullinax. The website is www.nffgrb.com.
