National Federation of Flemish Giant

Rabbit Breeders Inc.

Celebrating  our 93rd year
1915 - 2008

Welcome to the official home page of the National Federation of Flemish Giant Rabbit Breeders, one of the oldest Breed clubs in the US.   The purpose of the NFFGRB has always been to promote and improve the Flemish Giant breed.  The club does this using this website, quarterly newsletters, a wonderful guidebook, and by encouraging the exhibition of Flemish Giants at ARBA Rabbit Shows through the sweepstakes program.

Whether you are new to this wonderful breed or a long time enthusiast, please
spend a few minutes looking around to learn more about these remarkable animals.

Note to all who visit the NFFGRB web site:

The National Federation of Flemish Giant Rabbit Breeders and its Executive Board only recognize the Seven Varieties (colors) of Flemish Giants presently approved and listed in the American Rabbit Breeders Association (ARBA) Standard of Perfection.  Those Colors are:

BLACK, BLUE, FAWN, LIGHT GRAY, SANDY,
STEEL GRAY, WHITE

NO OTHER COLORS (VARIETIES) SHOULD BE REFERRED TO AS FLEMISH GIANTS UNLESS THE BREEDER HAS OBTAINED A C.O.D. (Certificate of Development) FROM THE ARBA AND IS FOLLOWING PROPER PROCEDURES TO GET ANOTHER VARIETY ACCEPTED.   PRESENTLY, VARIETIES THAT ARE NOT ACCEPTED BY OUR STANDARD WOULD BE  DISQUALIFIED ON THE SHOW TABLE BY ARBA JUDGES, AND BY NOT MEETING THE DEFINITION SET FORTH IN THE BREED STANDARD, WOULD NOT BE CONSIDERED FLEMISH GIANTS. (PLEASE REFER TO THE ARBA STANDARD OF PERFECTION FOR FLEMISH GIANTS)

We extend great Sympathy and Condolences

YOUR PRESIDENT’S REPORT – Robert Bomia

 September 2009

YOUR PRESIDENT’S REPORT, DEC., 2009 -  Robert Bomia

The summer is past and our Federation is about to enter its 95th year as we turn to 2010.  Many shows have been attended by our members in the last year, and our Flemish Giant Federation is still growing.   Thanks to all of you fellow Flemish Giant Members, and friends for all the hard work you have put into the show year.

Our Guidebook is being worked on by Director Bolyard, and it is time for all members to support this Giant Task and buy ads in this historical book that is due out in the upcoming year.   Please check our Website, or the articles in the newsletter on how you can contribute and become part of our future history.   Also at this time I would like to let everyone know that Bob Bolyard, Michigan will be noted as our Flemish Giant Federation Historian.   Anyone wanting to assist in this task or the guide book please contact Bob Bolyard.

The Sweepstakes written Guidelines are being updated and will be put on the Federation Website soon.  As we speak I think you will see that the Open and Youth sweepstakes will be separated as not to cause any confusion for those members that want to show as a Family in the Open.  All of the Federation Committees will remain the same as last year with the exception of the youth Committee that will be chaired by Dawn Buuck, Ind.  We are adding Anne Murdock to this Committee to work with the youth members, and assist Dawn.

Our 8th National Show will be held in Sedalia, Mo. In April, and information on this great show will be included in this newsletter, and also on our website.   We look forward to seeing everyone at this outstanding show being put on by John Davis and his Specialty Club.  The 2011 National Show will be held in Jefferson, Wis., by the Upper Midwest Flemish Giant Rabbit Club, and Bruce Johnson will be the Secretary.   “All Bids for the 2012 National Show will be due by March 1st, 2010 to Robert Bomia”.  This will put us two years in advance for all future bids.

The National Convention in San Diego, California was a great one from all those that I spoke with, and they said that our booth was outstanding.   I want to thank Kathy Rynard, director from Calif., and Joann Walker for all the hard work they did for our membership as the Breed Supt’s..  Congratulations to Joann Walker and Kathy Rynard for winning Best of Breed with a 6/8 Sandy Doe,   Best Opp. went to our lovely Sec/Treasure, and outstanding members Karen and Don Clouse with a Sr. Fawn Buck.   Also getting Best and Best Opp. Of Breed Youth from California was Paulene Herring.   Topping this off was my friend Bill and Marianne Mairs from Canada with Best Display and the Fabulous Four award.

At the Convention and a Giant Appreciation from the President and the Federation Members we awarded the following:  Kathy Rynard, and Joanne Walker (California) were added to the Federation Honor Roll, presented by Chairperson Jack Langley.    Master Breeder went to Rick  Bareno (California) and presented by Doc Dan Hall, Chairperson.   Jack Langley our V.P. was awarded the Toilet Seat award, and he wore it proudly.  Note:  Doc Dan Hall will be the Breed Supt. for the upcoming Minn. Show and is already working hard to make it a great one.   Again , Congratulations to all that participated in the Convention in San Diego, worked in the booth-Mabel Tobias, Kathy Rynard, Joann Walker, Karen Clouse and all the other great members.

The Flemish Giant Website at www.nffgrb.com is back working again, and thank all for their patience in this , and the problem is resolved.   Thanks to Karen Clouse, and Cathy Caracciolo for all the hard work to resolve these issues and to update the Breeders Directory.   All Specialty clubs as of July 1st will need to pay $50 per year if they want to use our website to advertize, and all members will be required to pay $5 per year to be listed in the directory.   This money will be used to offset the cost of maintaining this fine website for our members.   Anyone wishing to donate money for this cause , please send it to Karen Clouse our Sec/Treasure.

Say a prayer for all our members who have either lost loved ones or they are not in good health.  Our prayers go out to all of them.   Until we meet at the shows, may all your nest boxes be full of Grand Champions.  As of December First please welcome our New Director Charles Bryant to the Executive Board.
